HOW TO REMOVE CAR DECALS

DO YOU NEED AN AUTO DETAILING EXPERT TO REMOVE CAR DECALS?

It may sound easy, but removing auto decals is much harder than you think. Most auto detailing Experts in San Diego will tell you how important it is to take the time to do the right way, and if not save yourself a headache, and hire someone who knows what they are doing. The consequences of trying to do it yourself without the proper products and equipment can cost you your paint job, which is a lot more than any auto detailing service would charge you.

This is a time-consuming task, and it is a several step process. If you do-it-yourselves out there think you can get in and get out of this job quickly and easily, you may be surprised just how much work is involved. By the time you have gathered everything you need and begin the project is about when you may realize leaving the job to one of San Diego’s mobile auto detailing professionals may have been the wiser choice.

Auto detailing Expert, and owner of Apple Polishing Systems, Paul Beard, was given the job to remove show decals from a Lamborghini, and he said,”This Lamborghini was featured in this years SEMA car show and one of my customers bought it. He asked us to safely remove most of the vinyl lettering and we did! Polished, waxed and detailed too. Nice!!’

With a paint job like that, who would want to take ta chance by not hiring one of the experts?

IF YOU ARE WILLING TO TAKE THE RISK, HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

HEAT BLOWER OR HOT AIR HAIR BLOW DRYER

For the best results go to a local store such as Harbor Freight and buy a heat blower that is made for such a task. The alternative is to a standard hair blow dryer that is capable of blowing hot air.

PLASTIC SCRAPER

Again Harbor Freight carries handheld plastic scrapers made to scrape without scratching or causing any damage to the surface being worked on. You could get by with a plastic credit card, but you are less likely to get a clean scrape the first time around.

CLOTH RAGS OR AUTO DETAILING TOWELS

Spending the extra few dollars on the right towels will make a world of difference, there is no better job done than when you do it with the right tools.

AUTO DETAILING PRODUCTS
Depending on many factors, such as where the decals are located, how long they have been on the car. If they had been baking in the sun for some time. What kind of adhesive was used, and how much of it was used. There are many elements to consider before choosing the proper products for the job. If the decal or sticker is in a window you will definitely be needing some glass cleaner.

You can use a tree sap remover found at your local hardware store, and you will most likely need some sort of detailing finish solution. Which kind and how much is something you will need to figure out, so if you are not willing to pay a pro you may consider at least consulting with one before you dive in.

CONSULT WITH A PROFESSIONAL AUTO DETAILING EXPERT BEFORE YOU BEGIN THE PROCESS

The process is time-consuming and must be performed step by step so as not to ruin the surface the adhesive is stuck to. If this is your first time then you will probably have to repeat the steps a few time before you are able to remove both the decals and the glue altogether. There is an art to it that comes with experience. If you are like me and would rather be safe than sorry, give Paul a ring at Apple Polishing Systems 619-933-7034, or visit their website to learn more about their auto detailing services which include complete detailing packages, mobile car wash, windshield repair, and of course vinyl decal and sticker removal.
